Ordering Prescriptions online using SystmOne

Those people who have online access on SystmOne can order prescritions above online. This is not the same as ordering through the NHS App. If you do not have online access, please see below.

REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS

For clinical governance reasons we are not able to accept repeat prescription requests over the phone at any of our medical centres.

These may be obtained by:

  • Taking your re-order form into the practice
  • Sending it by post (please provide SAE if you need the signed prescription returning)
  • Asking your pharmacy to order on your behalf (please note that some pharmacies are no longer offering this service, including Boots at Holsworthy.)
  • Ordering on-line using your own on-line password via the link at the top of this page
  • Using your designated pharmacy's online app (if available)
  • Through the NHS App (available for IOS & Android)
  • By sending in an email request on:

For all routine requests your prescription will be processed and sent to your nominated pharmacy within 5 working days. The medications will then need to be ordered and supplied. Please check with your own pharmacy what the normal supply time will be, as times may vary. Many pharmacies offer a text messaging service to let you know when your medications are ready to collect.

If you need an urgent prescription please note that we are unable to provide this instantly, and will need you to collect after 5pm on that day, unless previously agreed with a clinician. If your urgent prescription is sent to a pharmacy for you to collect, please remember your medication will have to be made up and you will have to wait for this to be done.

Please indicate your preferred pharmacy for collection when making the request. Prescriptions can be collected from the reception desk if preferred.

Electronic Repeat Dispensing

Some patients who use certain medications may be able to benefit from the Electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD) service. This means that patients do not have to re-order prescriptions for regular medicines every time they are needed (usually monthly), and your GP can re-authorise 6 months of medication at a time. Prescription Fees

Help with NHS costs

In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:

  • those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
  • those who are age exempt
  • those with certain medical conditions
  • More information is available at NHS Choices

HRT

From 1 April 2023, women prescribed HRT - the main treatment for menopause symptoms - will have access to a new scheme enabling access to a year’s worth of certain menopause prescription items.

The cost for an HRT 12-month Pre Payment Certificate (PPC) from 1st May 2024 is £19.90. For full information click HERE

NHS Charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge. From 1st May 2024, prescription prices have increased:

  • Prescription (per item): £9.90
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £114.50
  • 3-month PPC: £32.05
  • 12-month HRT PPC: £19.90

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website HERE

Although prices for prescriptions remain the same for April 2024, the government increased the cost per item on 1st May 2024.

CLINICAL PRESCRIBING SERVICE

To add to the existing work of the Pharmacy and Prescription teams in our practices, we will now be using a new Clinical Prescribing Service.

A team of Clinical Pharmacists will be contacting patients to offer:

·       medication reviews and medication queries

·       statin initiation for patients with high cholesterol

·       help with medication additions or changes, made as a result of a hospital admission or requested by a consultant.

·       repeat prescription requests

·       acute (one-off) prescription requests

On occasion you may receive a call at the weekend. The Pharmacist will introduce themselves and let you know who they are and that they are working for our practices. They will also ask if you are happy to agree to a review by phone.

As these are not appointments booked by you, we want you to be aware that these are Pharmacists working as part of our extended team and are genuine callers.

We hope this will be of help to our patients.
